In the late morning of August 27, 2018, the city of Chester was marked by another act of violence that claimed the life of 31-year-old Everrett Wilson, a Black / African American male. Responding to calls of a shooting shortly after 11 a.m., police arrived at the 900 block of Yarnall Street to a grim scene. Inside a white Dodge Journey, they discovered Wilson, who had been shot multiple times.
Paramedics were called to the location but were unable to save him, and he was pronounced dead
at the scene. The driver's-side window of the vehicle was shattered, and shell casings were found on the ground nearby, suggesting the shots were fired from outside the car. Wilson's death was recorded as the 14th homicide in Chester that year, a statistic that underscored the ongoing challenge of violent crime in the city.
