In the late autumn of 2018, the life of 32-year-old Selena Shara' Wall was tragically cut short in Erie, Pennsylvania. On November 18th, she was found inside her Hess Avenue apartment, having been shot multiple times. For two days, she fought for her life, but ultimately succumbed to her injuries on November 20, 2018. Before she died, she was able to communicate to police and others who she said was responsible for the violent attack.
The investigation into her death quickly focused on
one individual: her boyfriend, Marcus A. Gibbs. The day after Wall’s passing, Erie police issued a warrant for his arrest, charging him in the killing. However, Gibbs had fled the state, managing to evade authorities for a time. His flight from the law came to an end in Austin, Texas, where he was apprehended for the fatal shooting of a man in that city.
Following his arrest in Texas, Gibbs was tried and convicted for the murder he committed there, receiving a 25-year prison sentence. It was only after this conviction that he was extradited back to Erie to finally face the charges for Selena Wall's death. His trial in Erie County commenced more than seven years after the shooting.
The prosecution's case against Marcus A. Gibbs was built around the powerful and poignant dying words of Selena Wall, who had identified him as her attacker. In April 2026, a jury listened to the evidence, including the testimony about Wall's identification of her killer. After deliberation, they found Gibbs guilty of third-degree murder in the shooting death of his girlfriend. This conviction brought a long-awaited conclusion to a case that had stretched across multiple states and many years.
