In the Frankford neighborhood of Philadelphia, a late autumn evening in 2018 turned deadly, leaving three men dead in what police would later describe as a drug deal gone tragically wrong. Among the deceased was 30-year-old Juan Rodriguez. The harrowing event unfolded on December 6th, inside a residence on the 5100 block of Saul Street.
The night was shattered by the sound of a gunfight, a chaotic exchange of bullets that would ultimately claim the lives of Rodriguez, Terrance Gaddy, 31,
and Chris Young, also 31. The grim discovery was made after a courageous 13-year-old boy, who was inside the home at the time, placed a call to 911, reporting that his father had been shot. This young witness was in the house with another child when the violence erupted.
When police arrived, they found a bloody and chaotic scene. Two men were found deceased inside the home, while a third was discovered on the sidewalk outside, bleeding from gunshot wounds. This man was later identified as Chris Young. He was taken to a nearby hospital where he succumbed to his injuries. The two men inside were identified as Juan Rodriguez and Terrance Gaddy.
Investigators quickly pieced together the likely sequence of events. They believe that Chris Young had gone to the residence with the intention of robbing Rodriguez and Gaddy during a prearranged drug transaction. The attempted robbery escalated into a shootout, resulting in the deaths of all three men. Police have indicated that Young was the aggressor who initiated the robbery, leading to the fatal exchange of gunfire. As the primary suspect in the deaths of Rodriguez and Gaddy also died at the scene, there were no subsequent arrests or charges in relation to their murders. The case stands as a grim reminder of the violent outcomes that can accompany the dangerous world of narcotics trafficking.
