In the winter of 2019, the city of Chester was struck by a targeted act of violence that claimed the life of 28-year-old Daon Womack, a Black / African American male. On the evening of February 12, Womack was outside a home on Bethel Road. As he approached his girlfriend's residence, he was fatally shot at close range. The attack was swift and left no one else injured.
When authorities arrived, Womack was pronounced dead at the scene.
Investigators quickly determined that the shooting was not a random act of violence. According to the police chief at the time, Daon Womack was the intended target of his killer. This detail added a layer of chilling premeditation to the crime, deepening the sense of loss for his loved ones and the community. Law enforcement confirmed that his murder was not connected to another fatal shooting that had occurred in the city just the day before, indicating it was a separate and isolated incident.
