David M. Corey, a 42-year-old male, died on Sunday, May 5, 2019, following a shooting incident at a local bar in Ridgway, Pennsylvania. An avid outdoorsman and a devoted father to his two daughters, Corey was a well-known member of his community. His death was officially ruled a homicide.
The event unfolded at Cully's Bar, where Corey was shot multiple times in the chest and abdomen. The individual responsible for the shooting was identified as 35-year-old Brian Martin of Johnsonburg.
Following the incident, Martin claimed that he had acted in self-defense, alleging that Corey had attacked him. However, law enforcement officials noted that Martin did not have any visible injuries to support his claim.
Brian Martin was subsequently arrested and charged with criminal homicide. The case proceeded to trial in Elk County Court. In February 2020, a jury found Martin guilty of third-degree murder and recklessly endangering another person. He was, however, acquitted of the more severe charge of criminal homicide. Following the verdict, Martin was sentenced to a term of 12 to 24 years of imprisonment for the third-degree murder conviction, with a concurrent sentence for the reckless endangerment charge.
