Dante Austin, a 27-year-old African American man, tragically died on June 7, 2019, in Philadelphia, PA. He was found dead in his office at the Philadelphia Sheriff's Department from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound. Austin was the first openly gay deputy sheriff in Philadelphia and served as the LGBTQ community liaison for the sheriff's office. His death was ruled a suicide by the medical examiner.
