In the summer of 2019, a wave of gun violence continued to trouble the city of Philadelphia. On June 20th, this violence claimed the life of 20-year-old Quaheim Aikens. A resident of Milbourne, Pennsylvania, Aikens was in the West Philadelphia neighborhood when he was fatally attacked on North Allison Street, near Master Street.
Responding to the scene, police officers discovered Aikens suffering from two gunshot wounds to his head.
He was quickly transported to a nearby hospital, but his injuries proved to be too severe, and he was pronounced dead shortly after his arrival. Investigators at the scene focused on a bicycle that was found on the sidewalk, though its connection to the shooting was not immediately clear. The sound of the gunshots apparently went unnoticed by some neighbors, who later attributed the silence to the noise of their air conditioners.
In the days and years that have followed, the case of Quaheim Aikens's death has remained unsolved. Despite the ongoing investigation, authorities have not publicly identified any suspects or determined a motive for the shooting. No arrests have been made, and consequently, no one has been charged or brought to trial in connection with his death. The lack of resolution has left his family and community searching for answers and justice for the young man whose life was cut short by a senseless act of violence.
