In the summer of 2019, a young man’s life was tragically cut short on a street in McKeesport, Pennsylvania. Delquay Lamont James, a 21-year-old male from Pittsburgh's North Side, was visiting a friend on the evening of Saturday, July 13th. Just before 8 p.m., in the vicinity of Beacon Street and Hazel Way, gunfire erupted. When the sounds of the shots faded, James was found near a vacant home, having sustained multiple gunshot wounds.
Paramedics arrived at the scene, but his injuries were too severe, and he was pronounced dead.
The investigation into the homicide began immediately, with Allegheny County Police canvassing the area and speaking to potential witnesses. Neighbors reported hearing as many as seven gunshots. Investigators learned that a group of men had been seen in the street near a dark-colored sedan. This group was observed walking toward Hazel Street moments before the fatal shots were fired. In the aftermath, the dark-colored vehicle was seen leaving the area. At the scene, police recovered several shell casings from different caliber firearms, suggesting more than one weapon may have been involved in the shooting.
In the days and weeks that followed, the search for those responsible for Delquay Lamont James's death continued. Authorities publicly stated that they had not yet identified any suspects and were unclear on a motive for the shooting. In an effort to generate leads, a reward of $1,000 was offered for any information that would lead to an arrest and prosecution in the case. Law enforcement urged anyone with knowledge of the incident to come forward, assuring that callers could remain anonymous. Despite these efforts and the witness accounts of a group of men and a dark sedan, no arrests have been publicly announced in connection with the murder.
