On the night of May 31, 2020, a burst of gunfire shattered the peace on the 3900 block of Fairmount Avenue in Philadelphia, leaving three people struck by bullets. Among them was 23-year-old Shakiyah Burston, a Black female, who was found by responding Philadelphia Police officers at 11:42 p.m. suffering from a gunshot wound. She was rushed to Penn-Presbyterian Medical Center for emergency treatment.
Despite the efforts of medical staff, Shakiyah Burston succumbed to her injuries and was pronounced dead the following morning, on June 1, 2020. The shooting incident also claimed the life of another individual, 25-year-old Tykeem Robinson, who was pronounced dead at the hospital that same night. A third victim, a 25-year-old male, was also wounded in the chest and leg but survived.
In the years that have followed the deadly shooting, the case of Shakiyah Burston's death remains unresolved. As of now, authorities have not publicly identified any suspects in connection with the shooting. The investigation into the double homicide is ongoing, and no arrests have been announced. The Philadelphia Police Department continues to ask for anyone with information regarding the incident to come forward to assist in the investigation.
