Rosemarie Mistler, a 21-year-old woman from Scranton, Pennsylvania, tragically lost her life on June 11, 2020. Mistler was fatally shot in the 300 block of South Main Avenue in Scranton. The incident occurred when a group of juveniles went to the home to confront another youth in an ongoing dispute. Mistler was sitting on the front porch when gunfire erupted, leading to her death.
Her sister was also wounded in the ribs during the incident.
Following the shooting, police arrested 15-year-old Jaylin Collins, who was charged as an adult in connection with Mistler's death. Collins was later joined by three other juveniles, Londell Wright, Nasir Williams, and Latrell Holmes, who were all charged with conspiracy to commit criminal homicide. In July 2020, Rashawn Henry was also arrested and charged with criminal conspiracy to commit homicide and aggravated assault.
In January 2022, three of the individuals involved were sentenced for their roles in Mistler's murder. Nasir Williams received a sentence of 12 to 40 years in prison for third-degree murder. Londell Wright was sentenced to 10 to 20 years for conspiracy to commit third-degree murder, and Rashawn Henry received a sentence of four to eight years for conspiracy to commit aggravated assault. All three defendants apologized for their actions and expressed regret for the tragic outcome.
The case highlighted the devastating consequences of juvenile disputes escalating into violence. The judge presiding over the case emphasized that the incident could have been resolved without resorting to guns, and the resulting tragedy compounded the loss experienced by Mistler's family and community.
The investigation and subsequent legal proceedings brought some measure of justice for Rosemarie Mistler, but the loss of a young life continues to resonate deeply within the Scranton community.
