On July 4, 2020, Jose Melendez, a 27-year-old man from Allentown, PA, was fatally shot at Trout Creek Park. The incident occurred during a heated argument that began with a minor car accident involving Melendez and another driver. The shooter, identified as Kenith Otero-Ruiz, 24, fired multiple rounds from a .357-caliber handgun at Melendez, who was trying to crawl to safety behind his car.
