On the evening of September 2, 2020, a burst of gunfire shattered the night on the 1800 block of Moore Street in South Philadelphia, leaving a scene of chaos and tragedy. When Philadelphia Police officers arrived at approximately 8:15 p.m., they discovered 17-year-old Jaheim Lamarre and another 17-year-old, Zahquesz McFadden, lying in the street, both suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. The officers rushed Lamarre to Penn Presbyterian Medical Center, but his injuries were too severe, and he was pronounced dead that night. McFadden, who lived on the block where the shooting occurred, was also transported to the hospital and succumbed to his injuries.
The violence of that evening was not limited to the two fatalities. Two other teenagers were also caught in the barrage of bullets. A 17-year-old male was shot in the arm, and an 18-year-old male sustained a gunshot wound to his ankle. Both of these young men were taken to a nearby hospital in a private vehicle and were listed in stable condition. In the immediate aftermath, the street was littered with more than 20 spent shell casings, a grim testament to the intensity of the attack.
In the days following the shooting, the Philadelphia Police Department announced they were searching for three suspects who were believed to have approached the victims on foot before opening fire. Surveillance footage from the area reportedly captured the gunmen, but as of the latest available reports, no arrests have been made in the case, and no weapons have been recovered. The motive for the shooting remains unknown to the public. The case of Jaheim Lamarre's death is officially listed as an unsolved murder by the Philadelphia Police Department, who continue to appeal to the public for any information that might lead to the apprehension of those responsible for the double homicide.
