In the winter of 2020, in York, Pennsylvania, the life of 27-year-old Jasmine Barnes was cut tragically short. On the afternoon of December 23, police responded to a report of a shooting in the 600 block of East Philadelphia Street. There, they found Jasmine Barnes, a female resident of the 600 block of North Pershing Avenue, who had sustained multiple gunshot wounds.
Despite any efforts to save her, she succumbed to her injuries at the scene.
The York County Coroner's Office was called to the scene and, following an autopsy, officially ruled Barnes's death a homicide. The cause of death was confirmed to be from the gunshot wounds she suffered. Investigators learned that an altercation at a house had escalated into a violent gunfight. It was during this exchange of gunfire that Barnes was struck. Authorities have indicated that both Barnes and an unidentified man were armed during the dispute. While details of the altercation remain part of an active investigation, it is believed that Barnes may have been caught in the crossfire rather than being the intended target. Her death marked the 12th homicide in the city of York for that year.
In the immediate aftermath of the shooting, the York City Police Department identified two individuals they believed had information pertinent to the case. A warrant was issued for Michael Anthony Adams, a 47-year-old from Baltimore, on charges of hindering apprehension and concealing or destroying evidence. Police suspected that Adams may have assisted the unidentified shooter in fleeing the scene. Additionally, authorities announced they were seeking 31-year-old Brittany Lasha Calloway of York for questioning regarding the events that transpired.
The investigation into the death of Jasmine Barnes remains open. Law enforcement has continued to appeal to the public for any information that might lead to the apprehension of the person or persons responsible for her death. To date, the shooter remains unidentified, and no arrests in direct connection to the homicide have been publicly announced.
