In the quiet of a February night in 2022, the lives of two men were tragically cut short in a violent encounter that ended in a house fire. One of those men was Eddie Lee Shaw, a 54-year-old male from Chambersburg, who was found inside a home on Neil Road in Southampton Township, a community not far from Shippensburg, PA. It was on February 23rd that emergency crews responded to the blaze, but what they discovered within the charred remains of the house was far more sinister than a simple
fire.
Upon investigation, the Cumberland County Coroner determined that Shaw, along with another man, 37-year-old Frankie Dean Thomas of Fayetteville, had not perished in the flames but had died from gunshot wounds. This discovery shifted the focus of the investigation from a tragic accident to a double homicide. The community was left to grapple with the shocking news as law enforcement began the painstaking process of piecing together the events that led to the two men's untimely deaths.
The investigation into the double homicide led authorities to identify two suspects: Cordaryl Burns and Larry Burns. Believing the two men had fled the state of Pennsylvania, law enforcement officials, including the U.S. Marshals Fugitive Task Force, launched a multi-state manhunt. The search came to a dramatic end in March when the two suspects were located and apprehended in separate raids. Cordaryl Burns was taken into custody in Detroit, Michigan, while Larry Burns was found and arrested in Lumberton, North Carolina. Both men were charged with homicide and awaited extradition back to Pennsylvania to face legal proceedings for their alleged roles in the deaths of Eddie Lee Shaw and Frankie Dean Thomas.
