In the spring of 2022, a violent encounter rooted in a fractured friendship and gang loyalties led to the tragic death of 22-year-old Nahmer Baird in Pottstown, Pennsylvania. On the evening of May 29, what began as a tense pursuit through the borough's streets escalated into a fatal shootout, ending a young man's life and setting in motion a cross-country manhunt for his killer. The incident unfolded as Baird, accompanied by his brother Jamar, found themselves the target of Tyshaun Harvey, a former friend with whom they shared a connection to a local rap group known as 'Bud Gang Bitch,' which had ties to criminal activities.
The chase reportedly lasted for a tense forty minutes, with Baird attempting to evade Harvey's black Chrysler 300. The pursuit reached its violent climax at Locust Alley and West Street. Trapped behind another vehicle, Baird's Nissan Sentra became a stationary target. Harvey exited his car and unleashed a barrage of bullets into the Sentra. Amid the chaos, a passenger in Baird's car returned fire. Baird was struck by the gunfire, and despite his attempts to flee the scene, he lost control of his vehicle just two blocks away, crashing head-on into a pickup truck. The driver of the truck sustained non-life-threatening injuries. When authorities arrived at the 400 block of West Street, they discovered Baird unresponsive in the driver's seat. He was rushed to Pottstown Hospital, where he was pronounced dead from a gunshot wound to the torso.
The investigation quickly identified 21-year-old Tyshaun Harvey as the primary suspect. Authorities revealed that at the time of the shooting, Harvey was out on bail for a previous aggravated assault charge from 2021. A warrant was issued for his arrest on charges of first-degree murder, and a significant reward was offered for information leading to his capture. Harvey, however, had already fled Pennsylvania. His journey took him first to Atlantic City, then south through North Carolina and Georgia, before he headed west. The manhunt concluded three months later when U.S. Marshals located and arrested him without incident at a motel in a small town near the California-Nevada border.
Following his extradition back to Montgomery County, the legal proceedings against Tyshaun Harvey began. The motive for the killing was revealed to be rooted in retaliation. Prosecutors argued that the bullet that killed Nahmer Baird was intended for his brother, Jamar, who had testified against three fellow BGB members in a separate homicide trial. Those three individuals were subsequently convicted and sentenced to life in prison. In May 2024, to avoid a trial on first-degree murder and a mandatory life sentence, Harvey pleaded guilty to third-degree murder and a firearms offense. In October of that year, a judge sentenced Tyshaun Harvey to 23 to 46 years in state prison for the murder of his one-time friend, bringing a close to the case that had violently torn apart a community.
