On an autumn night in Pottstown, Pennsylvania, the life of 17-year-old Skyler Fox was tragically cut short. On October 17, 2022, Fox and 18-year-old Brandon Baycote-Byer were found shot to death next to Fox's car at the intersection of 4th and Johnson Streets. The male victims, both students at Pottsgrove High School, succumbed to multiple gunshot wounds in what was later ruled a double homicide. Police were summoned to the scene around 11:30 p.m. by multiple 911 calls reporting gunfire.
Upon arrival, they discovered the two teenagers' bodies and began an investigation that would quickly unfold.
At the scene of the crime, investigators collected ten cartridge casings, a projectile, and a 9mm handgun with its serial number obliterated. The evidence suggested a violent encounter had taken place. An autopsy later confirmed that both Fox and Baycote-Byer died from multiple gunshot wounds. Skyler, born on February 1, 2005, was a senior at Pottsgrove High School and was known for his love of cooking, a passion he had cultivated since the age of seven.
The investigation into the double homicide led to a swift arrest. A 17-year-old from Schwenksville, Dominic Carboni, was taken into custody and charged with first-degree murder in connection with the deaths of Fox and Baycote-Byer. Authorities stated that the motive for the killings appeared to be a drug deal that had turned violent. Investigators uncovered Snapchat messages between Fox and Carboni, which indicated that Carboni had arranged to purchase several hundred dollars worth of marijuana from Fox. It is believed that the motive was robbery. A witness reported seeing Fox crawling away from his car with a backpack, which was later missing.
