Sydnie "Syd" Rounsville, a 16-year-old from Saint Augustine, Florida, tragically lost her life on October 6, 2020. Sydnie and her boyfriend, Kyle Stein, were shot while sitting in their car at the Florida Club condominiums. The incident occurred in the evening, and both were critically injured. The investigation into the
double shooting revealed that the perpetrator, Anfernee Wilson, was involved in a drug deal gone wrong. Witnesses reported seeing a black pickup truck speeding through the parking lot with Wilson chasing it while holding a gun. The truck eventually crashed into a parked car, and Wilson approached the vehicle, firing multiple shots at close range, hitting both Sydnie and Kyle. After the shooting, Wilson was seen removing items from the truck, including money, a cell phone, and drugs, before fleeing the scene. He was later found hiding in a retention pond nearby and was arrested by the authorities.
The legal proceedings that followed were extensive. Anfernee Wilson was charged with two counts of first-degree murder, among other charges. The trial took place in St. Johns County, where Wilson was found guilty on all counts. He received a life sentence for the murders of Sydnie Rounsville and Kyle Stein, along with additional sentences for related crimes, including shooting into an occupied dwelling and robbery with a firearm. The case highlighted the tragic consequences of violence and the impact it had on the families and community of the victims.
