In the quiet community of Newburg, Pennsylvania, a grim discovery brought a tragic end to the search for a local woman. Kyline C. Avey, a 41-year-old female, was found deceased on June 1, 2022, in a wooded area behind her residence on McClays Mill Road. The events leading to this discovery began when law enforcement was dispatched to her home to assist another agency with an investigation. Upon their arrival, they were unable to make contact with anyone at the residence.
Concerns grew as it was learned that Kyline had not been seen or heard from for several days, prompting a search of the property due to the suspicious circumstances.
The search culminated in the heartbreaking discovery of Kyline's body. An investigation was immediately launched by the Pennsylvania State Police, the Franklin County Coroner's Office, and the Franklin County District Attorney's Office. Virginia State Police reported that a Hopewell Sheriff's deputy had engaged in a slow-speed pursuit with Derrick Avey. The chase ended when he stopped his vehicle and confronted the officers with a firearm. In response, officers from the City of Hopewell Police and a special agent from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives opened fire, resulting in his death at the scene. The investigation into Kyline Avey's death was deemed an isolated incident with no further threat to the public.
