In the summer of 2022, the life of 18-year-old William Derrick Evans was tragically cut short in Chester, Pennsylvania. An African American male, William was on the cusp of his senior year at Chester High School, a milestone he would never reach. Known affectionately as 'Will,' he was described as a loving and humble young man with a shy demeanor and a warm smile.
He enjoyed playing video games, particularly NBA 2K and Call of Duty, and listening to rap music, often supporting his friends during their studio sessions.
On August 16, 2022, William was with 22-year-old Shaakir Alim Germany when a firearm discharged. The bullet struck William in the head, inflicting a fatal wound. Germany would later claim that the shooting was an accident, stating that the gun he was holding went off unintentionally. Despite his assertion, authorities ruled the death a homicide.
The incident brought a sudden and violent end to a promising young life. William, a leap-year baby born on February 29, 2004, was remembered for his close bond with his five siblings and his enjoyment of family gatherings and celebrations. He was the tallest of his siblings, a physical characteristic that made him stand out. His untimely death left his parents, Rashalle Denise Smith and Derrick William Evans Sr., along with his brothers, sisters, grandparents, and a host of other relatives and friends, to mourn their profound loss.
