William Knox Schroeder, a 19-year-old Caucasian male, was a student at Kent State University in Kent, Ohio. On May 4, 1970, he was tragically killed by Ohio National Guardsmen during a protest against the Vietnam War. Schroeder was not actively participating in the protest; he was simply walking between classes when he was shot in the chest by a single bullet from an M-1 Garand battle rifle.
