David S. Ruppert, an 11-year-old boy, tragically lost his life on March 30, 1975, in Hamilton, Ohio. His death was part of a horrific event known as the Easter Sunday Massacre. On that day, James Urban Ruppert, David's uncle, fatally shot eleven members of his own family in his mother's house at 635 Minor Avenue in Hamilton. The victims included David's parents, his grandmother, and seven of his siblings.

using a .357 Magnum handgun and two .22-caliber handguns. The motive behind the killings was reportedly revenge for his mother and brother showing him little affection, combined with possible psychosis and paranoia. The massacre is considered the deadliest shooting committed by a lone gunman in the state of Ohio.
Following the massacre, James Urban Ruppert was arrested and tried for the murders. He was found guilty on two counts of aggravated murder but was declared not guilty on the other nine counts by reason of insanity. He received two consecutive life sentences and spent the rest of his life in prison. James Ruppert died from natural causes on June 4, 2022, while incarcerated at the Franklin Medical Center in Columbus, Ohio.
