Charity H. Skinner Ruppert, a 65-year-old woman of English descent, was tragically murdered on March 30, 1975, in Hamilton, Ohio. She was the mother of James Urban Ruppert, who carried out the horrific act known as the Easter Sunday Massacre. On the day after Easter, March 31, 1975, James Ruppert fatally shot 11 members of his family, including his mother, Charity; his brother, Leonard Jr.; his sister-in-law, Alma; and their eight children.
The massacre shocked the community and left a lasting impact on Hamilton.
James Urban Ruppert was arrested and charged with the murders. The investigation revealed that he had a history of mental health issues, and the motive behind the killings was believed to be related to his deteriorating mental state. The case went to trial, and James Ruppert was found guilty of the murders. He was sentenced to life imprisonment without the possibility of parole.
