Police Officer Derrick Lanier, aged 27, was shot and killed on March 2, 1996, while working an overtime assignment at a club located at 9600 Madison Avenue in Lakewood, Ohio. Officer Lanier, who served with the Cuyahoga Metropolitan Housing Authority Police Department, was escorting two men out of the club when they returned to the scene, and one of them opened fire.
