On August 7, 2011, 11-year-old Scott Calvin Dieter was tragically killed in a mass shooting in Akron, Ohio. The perpetrator, Michael E. Hance, 51, went on a rampage that resulted in the deaths of seven people, including Scott. Hance began his shooting spree by attacking his girlfriend, Rebecca K. Dieter, who survived by playing dead.
