Robert A. Fletcher, a 26-year-old male from Columbus, OH, tragically died on November 30, 2014. He was involved in a botched robbery attempt at a known drug house on S. Eureka Avenue on the Hilltop. Fletcher, along with his girlfriend Jessica W. Foster and Anthony D. Booth, went to the house with the intention of robbing the occupants. During the robbery, Fletcher was shot and later found sprawled in the front yard with two bullet wounds in his chest.
He was pronounced dead an hour later at Mount Carmel West.
Booth, who grew up with the people in the house, was charged with involuntary manslaughter in the incident. He admitted to having cocaine in a separate incident in May 2015. Booth's girlfriend, Foster, also faced charges but pleaded guilty to obstructing official business, a misdemeanor. The court heard that Fletcher was addicted to heroin and had lost another son to an overdose.
The case against Booth was part of a plea agreement, and he was sentenced to five years in prison for his involvement in the robbery that led to Fletcher's death. Foster received a 64-day jail sentence, which she had already served. The court emphasized the dangers of guns, drugs, and unhealthy relationships in contributing to such tragic events.
