Born on July 22, 1971, she was survived by her daughter, Makayla Matthews; fiancé, Kenneth Carroll; father, James Wilkerson; mother, Carol Wilkerson; sister, Lori Byrd; grandmother, Jean Irvin; and niece , Heather Overbay, along with numerous other family members and friends.
A visitation was held on October 12, 2015, at Newcomer Funeral Home in Beavercreek, followed by a service and interment at Valley View Memorial Gardens in Xenia.
Reports indicate that Melissa Matthews died from a gunshot wound on October 6, 2015, in Dayton, Ohio. Her death was ruled a suicide.
