Rouven Loch, a 22-year-old man from Fairborn, Ohio, died on February 22, 2016, following a standoff with police. Loch was suspected of committing a series of robberies and was located at a residence on Eastview Drive. After an hour-long attempt to negotiate his surrender, tear gas was deployed, and Loch exited the residence with a pellet gun pointed at officers.
He was shot by police and later pronounced dead at Miami Valley Hospital.
The incident prompted an investigation by the Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation , which concluded that Loch was shot after pointing the pellet gun at officers. The Fairborn Police Department also conducted an internal review of the incident. The officer involved, with 18 years of experience, was placed on leave and received psychological support counseling.
No arrests or suspects were identified in connection with Loch's death, as it was determined to be a justified police action in response to the perceived threat. The case did not result in any litigations or murder charges.
