Daylee Newman, a 17-year-old girl from Columbus, OH, tragically died on August 2, 2016. She was staying at the home of her boyfriend, 18-year-old Thomas P. Gutierrez, on Markison Avenue when the incident occurred. According to Gutierrez's brother, Andre Mehler, the shooting was accidental. Gutierrez was reportedly playing with a handgun when it discharged, fatally injuring Daylee.
