According to reports, the assailant got out of a grey four-door sedan, confronted Valdiviezo, and fired multiple shots, killing him on the spot.
Valdiviezo was a student at Lewis & Clark College in Portland, Oregon, where he was also a member of the college football team, playing as a wide receiver. Friends and family described him as a bright young man with a promising future, who had worked hard to distance himself from the violence that plagued his neighborhood in the Mission District.
Authorities believe that Valdiviezo may have been mistaken for a gang member, which unfortunately contributed to this senseless act of violence. The shooting was a devastating blow to his family and community, and his death sparked public outcry and a call for peace in the Mission neighborhood.
