On September 29, 2016, Shunsie Ellis, a 44-year-old resident of San Francisco, was fatally shot in the Tenderloin District. The shooting occurred just before 1 a.m. on the 400 block of Ellis Street, a troubled area known for violence. Ellis was one of four people injured in the incident, which left two other men and a woman with non-fatal gunshot wounds. Despite efforts by first responders, Ellis succumbed to his injuries at Zuckerberg San Francisco General Hospital.
