Breanna Nicole Fluitt, a 17-year-old girl from Cleveland, OH, was tragically found dead on August 20, 2016, in East Cleveland. She had been shot and her body was discovered near abandoned buildings. Woods was found at the home of a relative and taken into custody after a brief standoff. However, the family of Breanna Fluitt questioned why Woods was out on bond despite his previous charges.
The case drew significant attention, and Newell was eventually convicted of aggravated murder in November 2017. He faced up to life in prison without the possibility of parole.
