In the cold of a Detroit winter, just a day before New Year's Eve in 2011, the life of 37-year-old Derrick Wallace was tragically cut short. On the evening of December 30th, in the area of 12021 Heyden Street, Wallace became another victim of the city's unrelenting violence. An African-American male, his death was one of many homicides that plagued Detroit during a particularly violent year, overwhelming law enforcement resources and leaving a trail of unresolved cases and grieving families.
