Mark E. Horne, a 48-year-old male from Columbus, OH, tragically died on August 27, 2016. He was killed at the Kozy Inn on South High Street around 1:35 a.m. Horne was pronounced dead at the scene shortly after.
The investigation into Horne's death led to the arrest of Monteria L. Watkins, a 32-year-old suspect. Watkins was charged with murder and taken into custody by Columbus police.
According to police reports, Watkins approached Horne's hotel room and a fight ensued, during which Watkins shot Horne. Watkins then fled the scene, but was later located and arrested by SWAT officers.
Initially, a female was also considered a suspect, but after questioning, she was no longer believed to have participated in the murder. The case continued to be investigated by the Columbus Division of Police, who urged anyone with information to come forward.
