Gregory Keith Moses, a 42-year-old male of African American ethnicity, tragically lost his life on December 2, 2016, in Dayton, Ohio. He was fatally shot inside his home on Haney Road in Harrison Township. Deputies responded to a 911 call reporting a dead body found at Moses' residence. Upon arrival, they discovered Moses' body just inside the front door of his home.
The investigation led to the arrest of Deandre Dixon, a 27-year-old male, who was identified as the shooter.
Dixon was found guilty on all counts related to the murder of Moses, including three counts of murder, felonious assault with a deadly weapon, felonious assault causing serious physical harm, carrying concealed weapons, improperly discharging a firearm at or into a habitation, and having weapons while under disability for a prior offense of violence. Dixon was also found guilty on repeat violent offender specifications.
On October 17, 2017, Montgomery County Common Pleas Court Judge Erik Blaine sentenced Dixon to 27 years to life in prison for the murder of Moses. The court imposed additional sentences for gun specifications and being a repeat violent offender. During the sentencing, Moses' father, Rev. Dwight Tyree, delivered a powerful victim impact statement, expressing the profound loss and pain experienced by the family.
The case highlighted the devastating impact of violent crime on families and communities, and the lengthy legal process that followed to bring the perpetrator to justice. Despite the tragedy, the family of Gregory Moses continues to honor his memory and the positive impact he had on those around him.
