Jayquon Devione Tillman, an 18-year-old African American male from Cleveland, tragically lost his life on May 5, 2017, in Portage, Ohio. Tillman was a student at Eastern Michigan University and was attending a large house party in Franklin Township, just north of Kent, when the incident occurred. The Portage County Sheriff’s Office responded to the scene after neighbors complained about the noise from the party.
As deputies attempted to quiet down the party, a gunshot was heard, causing panic and chaos among the attendees. Jayquon Devione Tillman was discovered shot and was immediately transported to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead. Another individual, Kalin Cheyenne Lee, a 20-year-old woman from Columbus, was also shot but survived and was treated and released from the hospital.
The investigation into Tillman's death has remained open and unsolved over the years. Despite the large number of people present at the party, law enforcement has struggled to gather sufficient information to identify the shooter or the circumstances leading to the shooting. Portage County authorities have repeatedly appealed to the public for any information that could help solve the case. Tillman's mother has also made heartfelt pleas for justice, emphasizing her son's bright future and the impact his loss has had on their family.
The case continues to be a priority for the Portage County Sheriff’s Office, and they have urged anyone with information to come forward to assist in bringing closure to this tragic event.
