On January 6, 2018, Abel H. Beyene, a 30-year-old male of Eritrean ethnicity, was found shot to death in a running car in South Linden, Columbus, OH. The car was discovered by a resident who noticed it running with its lights on in his backyard and called the police at 7:21 a.m. When officers arrived, they found Beyene in the driver's seat with gunshot wounds and pronounced him dead at the scene.
The circumstances surrounding Beyene's death remain unclear, as it is unknown how he ended
up in the car or what led to the shooting. At the time of his death, Beyene was working as an engineering technician at American Electric Power and had attended Ohio State University. His death marked the sixth homicide in Columbus in 2018.
Despite ongoing investigations, no suspects have been identified, and the case remains unsolved. Authorities have urged anyone with information to come forward and contact the Columbus police or Central Ohio Crime Stoppers.
