Najmuddeen Abdus Salaam, a 48-year-old Black male, was found deceased on March 29, 2018, in Columbus, Ohio. He was discovered lying on the ground near a residence on East 26th Avenue, and despite efforts by officers and medics, he was pronounced dead at the scene. The incident was quickly determined to be a homicide.

Prior to his death, Salaam had been involved in legal troubles. On May 15, 2017, an Ohio Highway Patrol trooper stopped him and found 249 grams of cocaine, along with laptops ...
