Jeniqua L. Morrow, a 25-year-old woman from Dayton, Ohio, tragically lost her life on May 8, 2018. She was fatally shot in the early hours of the morning at Northland Village Apartments in Harrison Township. Morrow was discovered by deputies who responded to a reported shooting at the apartment complex. The incident occurred after Morrow visited the apartment of Deangela Ciera Jones, a 32-year-old woman, along with two other women.
According to one of the witnesses, Morrow went upstairs, and shortly after, a gunshot was heard.
Deputies and a K9 officer searched the area but did not find a suspect or weapon. Jones initially claimed that a man had shot Morrow before fleeing into the woods, but this was later contradicted by other witnesses. Jones was detained at the scene and later arrested on a preliminary charge of murder. She was later indicted on charges of murder, felonious assault, and having weapons while under disability.
In March 2019, Jones pleaded guilty to involuntary manslaughter and having weapons while under disability. She was sentenced to 16 years in prison for her role in Morrow's death. The Montgomery County Prosecutor’s Office handled the case, and the court records indicate that the charges included a three-year firearm specification.
The tragic death of Jeniqua L. Morrow and the subsequent legal proceedings highlight the devastating impact of gun violence and the complexities of investigating and prosecuting such cases. The community continues to mourn the loss of a young woman whose life was cut short far too soon.
