Le'Asha Danae Owens, a 24-year-old African American woman from Dayton, OH, tragically lost her life on March 13, 2022. She was well-known in her community as a hairstylist and for her bright spirit and smiles. Le'Asha was at a stoplight with her friend Turell Justice when a vehicle pulled up beside them and opened fire. Both Le'Asha and Turell were taken to Miami Valley Hospital, where they later succumbed to their injuries.
The incident occurred in the early morning hours at the
intersection of Germantown Street and Gettysburg Avenue. Le'Asha's close friend Chrisha Taylor, who was with her that night, described the event as happening so fast. Taylor recalled that they had just left a club and were on their way to another spot when the shooting occurred. The assailants fled the scene, leaving behind a devastated community and a grieving family.
As of now, there have been no arrests or suspects identified in connection with Le'Asha's death. The investigation is ongoing, and authorities are actively seeking justice for Le'Asha and Turell. The community has set up memorials at the site of the shooting, and friends and family continue to call for answers and accountability.
Le'Asha is survived by her parents, Duane Owens, Sr. and Larie Madison-Cox, her two sons, Ja’Siah Harris and Ja’Michael Nelson Jr., her grandmother, Heresa Madison, her grandfather, Larry Gober, six brothers, four sisters, and a large extended family. Her youngest son is only three years old, and the family is struggling to explain the loss to him.
The case remains a priority for local law enforcement, and the community remains hopeful that those responsible will be brought to justice. Le'Asha's memory lives on through the love and support of her family and friends, who continue to honor her life and legacy.
