Robert Lamont Woods, a 37-year-old African American male from Columbus, Ohio, tragically died on July 14, 2018. He was working as a bouncer at O'Toole's Irish Pub and Grill on West Broad Street when he was shot by occupants of a second vehicle that pulled up while he was escorting patrons to their cars. Woods was transported to Doctor's West Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
The Franklin County Sheriff's Office released surveillance video of the suspect vehicle, described as a
silver or light gray Toyota RAV4 from the years 2000-2005. The suspects were described as black males in their early to mid-20s. Woods was scheduled to testify in the criminal trial of his ex-girlfriend, Julie Stovall, who was charged with aggravated menacing for attacking him with a knife earlier that year.
Two years after Woods' death, Brandon Richard Neville, 23, was arrested and charged with murder in connection with the shooting. Neville and a second suspect had gone to the bar to commit a robbery. The second suspect died in an apparent suicide in 2018.
Woods' family and friends have been vocal about seeking justice for his death. They organized a candlelight vigil and have called for anyone with information to come forward. The Franklin County Sheriff's Office continues to investigate the case and has asked for the public's help in identifying the suspects.
