Tion Anthony, an 18-year-old male of Black ethnicity, tragically passed away on August 14, 2019, in Akron, Ohio. His death was the result of a shooting incident that occurred in the vicinity of Dahlgren Drive and Rosemary Boulevard. Tion Anthony was found shot in the head, and another individual, Douglas Norman Jr., aged 21, was also injured in the incident.
Following the incident, Jeremiah Alexander, a 22-year-old resident of Akron, was arrested and charged with the murder of Tion Anthony and the felonious assault of Douglas Norman Jr. Alexander claimed that he acted in self-defense, believing that Anthony or one of his friends was about to shoot him. However, the jury found Alexander guilty of murder and felonious assault. On May 4, 2021, Alexander was sentenced to 21 years to life in prison for his actions.
The trial was significant as it was one of the first murder trials to proceed in Summit County court since the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic. The family of Tion Anthony expressed relief at the conviction, although they acknowledged that nothing could bring their loved one back.
