A man is killed by a drive-by shooting On August 8, 2015, Michael Joseph Herring, a 32-year-old African American male from Akron, Ohio, was fatally shot in a drive-by shooting near Maxen Drive and Fess Avenue. At approximately 5:14 p.m., an unidentified vehicle approached the area where Herring was standing, and its occupants opened fire, striking him multiple times.
