On November 1, 2019, 15-year-old JaQuan D. Howard was tragically killed in a shootout at a Hampton Inn in Cincinnati, Ohio. Howard, a young African American male, was one of the gamblers present in the hotel room where the incident occurred. The shootout erupted when three armed men, Jay Harris, Marvin Hughes Brown, and Taymar Jones, attempted to rob the people inside the room.
During the chaotic scene, both parties exchanged gunfire, resulting in the deaths of Howard and 20-year-old Taymar Jones. Another individual, 18-year-old Mykell Gamble, was injured but survived with a gunshot wound to the foot.
Following the incident, six individuals were indicted on charges related to the shootout. Jay Harris and Marvin Hughes Brown were charged with two counts of murder, one count of felonious assault, three counts of felony robbery, and one count of aggravated burglary. If convicted, they could face life in prison. Kevin Coes, who was gambling in the room before the shooting and was later connected to the men who attempted the robbery, was also indicted in the murders and other offenses. His girlfriend, Yesica Perdomo, was charged with robbery and obstructing justice. Rahmon and Rashad Swain, who set up the gambling room, were charged with tampering with evidence for allegedly removing guns from the hotel room before police arrived.
