Carl Peay II, a 27-year-old male from Columbus, Ohio, tragically lost his life on September 1, 2020. He was fatally shot in the parking lot of the Cross-Key Apartment Complex on Chatterton Road in Truro Township. Carl was with 24-year-old Mia Leanna Shane when they were ambushed by two unidentified suspects. Both victims were found with multiple gunshot wounds and were pronounced dead at the scene by responding medics.
The Franklin County Sheriff's Office responded to the incident and
launched an investigation. Detectives believe the crime was not random and suspect it could have been a robbery or an act of retaliation. Surveillance footage released by the Sheriff's Office shows two men hiding in the parking lot before the shooting. One of the suspects was seen crouching behind a car, waiting for Carl and Mia to get into their parked SUV before running up and shooting at close range.
Despite the release of the video and an ongoing investigation, no arrests have been made, and the suspects remain unidentified. The Franklin County Sheriff's Office continues to seek information from the public and has offered a cash reward for any tips leading to the arrest of the suspects.
