Carrington Corey Willis, a 32-year-old Black male from Columbus, Ohio, tragically passed away on September 24, 2020. He was fatally shot near Harrison Smith Park on the city's Northeast Side. Willis was transported to Ohio State University East Hospital in critical condition but did not survive his injuries. His death marked the city's 112th homicide of that year.
The shooting incident occurred around 10:30 p.m.
on Kenray Drive, and an adult woman was also shot at but fortunately not struck. Multiple houses in the area were hit by gunfire during the incident. The case remains under investigation by Columbus police, and no arrests have been made in connection with Willis's death.
Willis was known for his active involvement in his community and his passion for promoting peace and positivity. He was a father of two young children and worked as a youth prevention coach, helping troubled adolescents avoid a life of crime. His ultimate goal was to create a football team called The Columbus Bears.
