On November 12, 2020, 25-year-old Mheid Abeid was found shot and killed in Cincinnati's Over-the-Rhine neighborhood. He was discovered suffering from gunshot wounds near the intersection of Moore and Walnut streets around 10:15 p.m. Despite being rushed to the University of Cincinnati Medical Center, Abeid succumbed to his injuries.
The investigation into Abeid's death led to the arrest of two suspects. On January 27, 2021, 17-year-old Amarion Baker was arrested and charged with murder.
Shortly after, Ronald Morris, 30, was also taken into custody and charged with murder, felonious assault, and weapons charges. Both suspects were later sentenced for their roles in the fatal shooting.
The Cincinnati Police Department's Homicide Unit continued to investigate the case, and both Baker and Morris eventually pled guilty to the homicide. They were sentenced to a total of nine years in prison, with credit for time served.
The tragic death of Mheid Abeid and the subsequent legal proceedings highlight the ongoing issue of gun violence in urban areas and the efforts of law enforcement to bring perpetrators to justice.
