Tavon J. Myers, a 41-year-old lifelong resident of Sandusky, Ohio, tragically passed away on December 5, 2020. He was born on February 4, 1979, to Dennis and Isadore Cunningham. Tavon was known for his loving nature and enjoyed spending time with his family. He is survived by his wife, Bryonia Myers, and their three sons, Tavairieon, Ta’Rayae, and Tavarea’ Myers, as well as one daughter, Tavarea Walk, and a grandson, Azarion Myers.
Tavon Myers' death was the result of a violent
incident. On the day of his death, officers from the Sandusky City Police Department responded to reports of multiple gunshots at the 600 Block of East Madison Street. Tavon was shot during an altercation that occurred when three men, Exavier Cruz, Lavelle Chapman, and Jalen Jones, returned to rob him after an earlier drug deal. The incident led to a shootout, and Tavon Myers was fatally wounded.
Following the incident, the Sandusky police arrested the three suspects involved in the robbery and murder. Exavier Cruz faced an aggravated murder charge, while Lavelle Chapman and Jalen Jones were charged with complicity to aggravated murder. Jalen Jones later pleaded guilty to complicity to murder and was sentenced to life in prison with the possibility of parole after serving a minimum of 18 years. The case against Lavelle Chapman was still pending at the time.
