On December 11, 2020, Jeremiah Clinton, a 17-year-old male from Columbus, Ohio, was tragically killed in a shooting incident on the city's East Side. He was a former student-athlete at Bexley High School, where he had played football and wrestled. At the time of his death, Clinton was not a student at the school.
The incident occurred around 11:55 p.m. on the 2800 block of Barclay Square South.
When police arrived at the scene, they found Clinton and another individual, Troy Redmond, 18, suffering from gunshot wounds. Clinton was taken to Ohio State University East Hospital in critical condition but unfortunately succumbed to his injuries at 12:30 a.m. the following morning. Redmond, who was also wounded, survived the shooting and was expected to recover.
Police investigations revealed that Clinton and Redmond were engaged in criminal activity at the time of the shooting. The nature of the criminal activity was not disclosed, but it was suggested that it might have been drug-related. A third person, an 18-year-old male, was also shot and taken to a hospital in stable condition.
Following the incident, Troy Redmond was charged with murder in connection with Clinton's death. According to Ohio law, an accomplice can be charged with homicide if someone dies during the commission of a crime, even if the accomplice did not pull the trigger. A warrant was filed for Redmond's arrest, although charges had not been formally filed in Franklin County Municipal Court at the time.
