Michael W. Sarratt, a 36-year-old resident of Columbus, Ohio, tragically lost his life on February 22, 2023, in a shooting incident that occurred in the northeast part of the city. Born on January 1, 1987, in Easton, Maryland, Sarratt was the son of Gay A. Ormsby and Michael L. Sarratt.
The Columbus Division of Police initially responded to reports of a shooting and found Sarratt at the scene. He was pronounced dead shortly after.

On March 9, 2023, approximately two weeks after the shooting, Columbus police homicide detectives identified a suspect in Sarratt's murder. The suspect was named as Cassandra Franklin, a 40-year-old woman. Authorities issued a warrant for Franklin's arrest, charging her with Sarratt's death.
According to prosecutors, the events leading to Sarratt's death unfolded when Franklin entered a residence and assaulted Sarratt and another occupant. During the ensuing struggle, Franklin allegedly shot and killed Sarratt.
The case reached its legal conclusion on April 2, 2024, when Cassandra Franklin pleaded guilty to one count of involuntary manslaughter with a three-year gun specification. This plea was secured by the Franklin County Prosecuting Attorney's Office, bringing a measure of closure to the tragic incident that claimed Michael Sarratt's life.
