Keyshayla Lanae Collins, a 19-year-old woman from Springfield, Ohio, tragically lost her life on February 26, 2021. She was shot and killed at a gas station in Springfield, specifically at Speedway on North Limestone Street. The incident occurred around 10:45 p.m. when multiple gunshots were heard, and police were called to the scene. Collins was found lying at the entrance of the gas station and was pronounced dead at the scene.
Another male victim was also found injured and taken to the hospital.
The investigation into Keyshayla Collins' death led to the arrest of two suspects, Sean Thomas and Demietrus Scott. Both men were indicted on multiple charges, including aggravated murder, murder, attempted murder, and felonious assault. Surveillance video from the gas station showed Thomas confronting Collins and the other male victim before firing multiple gunshots. Scott was identified as the driver of the suspect vehicle. Thomas was arrested in Decatur, Georgia, while Scott was taken into custody in Dayton, Ohio.
The case against Thomas and Scott is ongoing, and they both await trial for their alleged involvement in the shooting. The Springfield community continues to mourn the loss of Keyshayla Collins, whose life was cut short by this senseless act of violence.
